August’s astro-weather is good for business, bad for the heart. Mars & Saturn are traveling in trine all month, which is to say that we’ll have the discipline to get things done; trouble is, with Venus Retrograde for the entire month, we won’t want to do it. And that’s not wrong: we NEED to pay attention to relationships this month, beginning with the one to ourselves, so it’s a huge bonus that business matters will roll along nicely without us.
Except in the matter of cash flow. Here we may run into problems, because Venus will SQUARE the Saturn trine, and Venus & Mars in Leo will want to do things in a big way—without the funds to cover the cost. Fortunately, Jupiter moves into frugal Virgo on the 11th, which should stem the extravagant tide.
Uranus will be pitching creative ideas to susceptible Venus all month, too, and some of these are fabulous; however magical, they should be saved for execution at a more propitious (read practical) time. Mercury is moving faster than usual, which should streamline the evaluation process, but is opposed mid-month (11th-18th) by nebulous Neptune, leading to temporary wooly-minded-ness.
Back to Venus Retrograde: because creativity is flowing and career matters are well in hand, there is a HUGE temptation to distract oneself with frivolities, or delve into work issues; but this would be a mistake. August is a time to ponder one’s heart as deeply as possible, to ask the difficult questions about current or desired relationships, and to consider what we are willing to offer in order to receive what we need. NOT doing so could be expensive down the road.
It’s a tall order, and not especially fun. But necessary.
“Don’t know why/There’s no sun up in the sky/ Stormy weather…”
Remember that astrological respite I hinted at last week? Um, er, ahem…I was wrong. The next two weeks bring us Mars squares, first to Pluto, then to Uranus. Brace yourselves, folks: this could be a bumpy ride.
Mars triggers any planet it transits. And it will be setting off Plutonian transformation and Uranian revolution. Relative to world events, these are powder kegs about to be detonated. In the lives of ordinary mortals, these are still powerful energies heralding CHANGE. Major, major stuff going on in our lives. Interesting times.
What to do? Nothing. This is weather, folks, as sure as any thunderstorm or heatwave, and there’s not a thing we can do about its arrival—except be prepared. Understand that resistance is futile, and so we’d better work WITH the enormous amount of energy swirling around us just now. Don’t panic—USE it. Where do these change-bringers fall in our charts? In which sectors are we change-resistant?What can we keep and what needs to go?
That these mighty aspects fall within a Mercury Retrograde period is actually a kind of protection: since we are already minded to look backwards at our lives, we are already spotting and correcting our mistakes. The energy of Mars can give us the boost we need to make necessary changes; the seeming direness of the astral atmosphere just adds urgency and lends power to these transformations. We can actually get more done than we could do in normal periods—whatever normal might be for any one of us.
According to Mark Twain, "Everybody talks about the weather but nobody does anything about it." Well—give the weather in your life some thought. What needs doing? The aspects in the sky should help you figure it out.
Every day the weather changes; and we complain. Too hot; too cold; too much rain; not enough rain. We react; we take it personally. But weather is neutral: it rains on us whether or not we have an umbrella. Planetary patterns affect us the same way, whether we know it or not.
“Mercury Retrograde AGAIN!!” I heard all last month, when it was. But people who never heard of astrology, let alone retrogrades, still lost keys and files, missed planes and appointments, and confused instructions and directions. Over Christmas and all through January, people sulked and sooked about relationships gone wrong and finances being awry—a 6-week Venus Retrograde; now we are into a LENGTHY Mars AND Saturn Retrograde period, during which time getting anything started will feel like slogging through a swamp filled with molasses. The good thing about retrogrades is that they slow us down, so we can work smarter and more efficiently; the bad thing about retrogrades is that they slow us down, so due diligence takes longer. Either way, some will complain and some will wear rubbers.
This is Astro-Weather—the psychic-emotional climate mirrored in the skies. It WILL have an impact, whether one believes in astrology or not. As with meteorological forecasts, if we know what’s coming, we can prepare. Either generally, as with trends for the area; or specifically, with a professional look at one’s chart. I recommend the latter—obviously—but for the reason that the clues as to HOW to ride out storms or capitalize on sunny periods lie within the chart of each individual. It isn’t prescriptive—human nature is ornery and requires internal debate; and astrologers, like meteorologists can be WRONG—but the information is THERE, if you look for it. And if you need help in locating it—call me!
